Application of our anodes

Hall-Heroult process

Aluchemie anodes are used to produce aluminium (Al). During the electrolysis process (Hall-Heroult process) an electric current flows through a bath of alumina, aluminium oxide (Al2O3) and auxiliary materials. The carbon anodes are slowly consumed because they react with the oxygen (O2) which is released by the electrolysis process.


Aluminium is a light metal which is highly resistant to corrosion. It is used for a wide range of applications such as packaging, ladders, aircraft, vehicles, window frames, etc. Although the production of aluminium (aluminium smelting) uses a large amount of energy the low weight of the metal can lead to a lower energy consumption during the use of a product. The high resistance to corrosion also contributes to the long lifespan of aluminium products. Finally, at the end of their lifespan, aluminium products are easily recycled into new aluminium.
